The Restoration Process
PREPARATION
Many wastewater tanks have existing lining systems that can be challenging to remove without the appropriate equipment. We utilize a HydroBlaster that operates at 40,000 psi to effectively remove these linings. This process not only removes the lining but also strips rust and buildup, exposing the bare underlying metal. Following this, the metal is abrasive blasted using SpongeJet recyclable blasting media. This aggressive aluminum oxide blast media achieves a near-white finish and creates a suitable surface profile for the new lining to adhere to.
POLYUREA SPRAY ON LINING

Polyurea is a leading lining system used in the wastewater tank restoration industry. It is a plural-component spray-applied wastewater tank lining that cures to the touch in just 6 to 8 seconds. Typically, it is applied at a thickness of 60 to 80 mils in wastewater tanks, compared to only 10 to 12 mils for epoxy coatings.

Due to its spray application, Polyurea conforms easily to poles, pumps, and other internal structures. It is ideal for large diameter pipes, manholes, and lift stations. Polyurea is noted for its flexibility, boasting over 2,000 psi tensile strength and 300% elongation. This elongation property makes it particularly advantageous when compared to epoxy and other hard thin-film coating systems, which tend to crack under repeated expansion and contraction cycles. Polyurea, on the other hand, expands and contracts without cracking when applied to either steel or concrete surfaces.

Since it cures in seconds and has a tensile strength of 2,000 psi, Polyurea can even be used to repair holes in tanks as part of the lining system. Additionally, anti-microbial additives can be incorporated to reduce microbial growth on the lining.

Preparation is the most critical step in ensuring a long-lasting lining system. We utilize a 40,000 psi HydroBlaster to remove old linings, along with a Sponge Jet recyclable industrial abrasive blasting system. For applying the Polyurea lining system, we use a Graco Reactor 2 H-XP3 Proportioner.

Southeastern Industrial Linings has been applying Polyurea linings for over 20 years. David Puckett, the owner, is available anytime to discuss your project at 404-626-4771 or via email at SILinings@gmail.com.
